Camera Splitter Adapter

Concept Stage

Codename: Janus

Objective: create an adapter to attach two cameras to one lens using a beam splitter.

Here is a quick demo of an adapter concept that would allow two cameras to receive the same image from one lens using a beam splitter.

Inspired by @snappiness video here: https://youtu.be/60tAma9SN-4?si=wN4_vqu0TPZfCyPf

This setup would allow for a camera set up for infrared or full spectrum light to be paired with a visible light camera, which could both take the exact(ish) same image but have different colors available in post.

Same for video, but with any imaginable settings difference, like different shutter speeds, or even a type of bracketed video capture with one camera set for a super high/low exposure.

Sourcing the beam splitter is easy. There is a company that will sell the size and quality for around $60.

I have tried in the past to rig two cameras for the same image with a teleprompter, but I don't have two copies of the same lens, so I was never able to get a good match. Plus, the teleprompter option makes a clunky and cumbersome rig.
