Mononome - Don’t Come Back

This is an experimental music video for the song Don't Come Back by Mononome.

The main performance of the dance by Pauline Persichilli was filmed in 5x slow motion with the music track sped up 5 times and is one continuous performance. This made the music imperceivable, but Pauline remembered the main beats and incorporated them into her dance. The videos within the silhouette were also filmed in slow motion, with speed ramps applied in editing.

The original idea was to create and render a music-reactive lotus flower in 3D and motion track it to Pauline’s dance, but it proved difficult to make entertaining for 3 minutes. We decided eventually to make a day trip to San Francisco via train and ferry while filming random moments. After stitching several together, we had a much more visually interesting story happening within the dancing silhouette.
